SUSANA TRAVASSOS

“Susana is a singer of great sensitivity. Her singing is clear and intense.
An artist who sings of her village and, for this reason, her singing sounds universal”

Zeca Baleiro – singer, songwriter

Susana Travassos was born in Faro, Portugal, and lived until the age of 18 in Vila Real de Santo António, where she began her musical career. At the age of five she began studying the accordion, and later piano and lyric singing until she attended the jazz school at the Hot Club in Lisbon. With a clear and precise voice, Susana has an unusual interpretative intensity.

In 2008 she released her first CD, Oi Elis, a tribute to the singer Elis Regina. Her second album, Tejo-Tietê (2013), is a partnership with Brazilian composer Chico Saraiva and intersperses his own compositions with classics from Portugal and Brazil.

In recent years, Susana has been gaining prestige in Latin America, where she already has a loyal audience and respect from the press. During her time in Brazil, she performed alongside artists such as Yamandu Costa, Toninho Horta, Chico Pinheiro, Chico César and Zeca Baleiro, among others.

She has performed in large venues and prestigious festivals, including Uruguay, Bogotá, Festival Músicas do Mundo in Sines, Grande Auditório do CCB in Lisbon, São Paulo, Seoul – South Korea, Convento de Sao Francisco in Coimbra, Outono em Jazz at Casa da Música, etc…

In 2018 Susana took part for the first time in the famous Festival da Canção, performing the semi-finalist song, “Mensageira”, at the invitation of singer-songwriter Aline Frazão.

In 2019, the singer released her third CD, Pássaro Palavra, her first album, recorded in Buenos Aires, with her own songs, as well as unpublished compositions by Luísa Sobral and Melody Gardot. This work represents her artistic maturity and certainly places Susana Travassos among the leading Portuguese singers of her generation.
